Come down and play football at the mighty East Malvern Knights, where we offer a safe environment and the key outcome is girls enjoying their football.

There are pathways for our girls from Auskick through to the AFLW. All skill levels are welcome , it does not matter if you have played  100  games or never touched a footy in your life. If you want to play we will give you the opportunity.

Age Groups

This season we are aiming to have seven Girls Age Groups.  These are: U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15 and U18.  We play in the South Metro Junior Football League (SMJFL).  All our coaches are accredited with the SMJFL. Our aim is to enjoy football and understand the girls enjoy playing with their friends.

Pathways

Being part of the Knights give you opportunities not available at other clubs, We have an ongoing relationship with the St Kilda Sharks who play in the VFL. Thirteen of their girls were drafted into the AFLW and played in 2017, many of whom attend training at the Knights and assisted in the development of our players.

History

The Knights has a long and successful history in girl's footy. The first official Knights girls team in 2007 after absorbing the Sacre Coeur Kangaroos, who won three premierships in the AFL Vic U/18. In 2019 the Knights fielded a record eleven teams from U/10 to U/16.  In February 2017 we had four girls drafted to the inaugural AFLW, including Alicia Eva, who was the Collingwood vice-captain and is now GWS Giants Captain.  In 2020, with the addition of another three girls drafted we now have a total of nine ex-Knights in the AFLW.

Game Day

The girls play on Sundays and the fixture will be available on our website. There are modified rules for the younger teams (U8 - U10s) which allows the girls to develop their skills. As they get older there is tackling and games are played on full sixe grounds.
